Handout - What Dhraangg Knows About Karnstown

Being born and raised in the great city of Endmere far to the north, and having just recently come into the Feywood region in search of adventure, you've spent enough time in taverns to overhear lots of conversation. Some of that conversation had to do with a place called the City of Karnstown - the settlement that your adventuring party now finds itself entering. Here's what you can recall from your tavern eavesdropping:

  • The city sits on the north shore of a huge freshwater lake called Lake Karn. A river - Karn's River - borders its western edge. Apparently somebody named Karn had a penchant for naming things after himself!

  • The city is a lot mellower than a frontier city should be. Very low street crime; not even too many drunks on the streets at night. The city prides itself on being a nice place to come and live.

  • It'll cost money to enter the city. The gate guards charge an entry duty to anyone not a resident of the city - and residents have to show a piece of paper to prove it.

  • There's all sorts of Folk in the city. Mostly Human and Halflings, but a fair number of Half-Elves and Half-Orcs. Even a few Orcs, Dwarves, Gnomes, and Goblins.

  • It's a city, so you suppose there are lots of shops and services available. There should be several inns and taverns to choose from; finding a place to stay - and a place to eat and drink - shouldn't be a problem.

  • You overheard a finely dressed merchant in Dryad Falls talking about the Karn Hotel. Posh, lavish, probably too expensive for our tastes?

  • There are several casinos in the city.

  • While you were at the Founder's Day fair in Dryad Falls, you recall overhearing that the street food in Karnstown is really good - maybe worth going there just for that barbecue meat on a stick thing they sell.

  • You don't recall exactly where, but you once heard people talking about a Half-orc weaponsmith in Karnstown named Ga'ar something... Thorndall? Stormdell?. Apparently he knows some runecraft.
