Handout - What Gambit Knows About Karnstown
Being born and raised in the Central Plains north of the Feywood, and having just recently come into the region in search of adventure, you've spent enough time in taverns to overhear lots of conversation. Some of that conversation had to do with a place called the City of Karnstown - the settlement that your adventuring party now finds itself entering. Here's what you can recall from your tavern eavesdropping:
- The city sits on the north shore of a huge freshwater lake called Lake Karn. A river - Karn's River - borders its western edge. This Karn person liked the sound of his name, you guess. Typical Human...
- The city is a lot calmer than a frontier city should be. No muggers... no street drunks... (no nighttime fun?) Sounds kinda boring, actually.
- It's not a cheap place to live or visit - it even costs a coin or two to get into the city - unless you can prove you're a resident.
- There's all sorts of Folk in the city. Mostly Human and Halflings, but a fair number of Half-Elves and Half-Orcs. Even a few Orcs, Dwarves, and Gnomes. And Goblins! More than a handful of Goblins!
- It's a city, so you suppose there are lots of shops and services available. There should be several inns to choose from; finding a comfy place to stay should be easy. And there should be lots of places to eat! Maybe even Goblin places!
- You overheard a finely dressed merchant in Dryad Falls talking about the Karn Hotel. DIdn't sound like your kind of place. There was another one mentioned... the Prospectors something-or-other... sounded more like your kind of Folk... down-home people folk! And someplace called the Hook and Gaff Tavern? Fishhead stew was mentioned, you believe!
- There are several casinos in the city for the gambly people. But they tend to be classy places that don't like Gobbies much.
- While you were at the Founder's Day fair in Dryad Falls, you recall overhearing that the street food in Karnstown is really good. Dhraanggh heard it too! Real Goblin Rat on a Stick! You haven't had a good Rat on a Stick since you left your momma's place!
- You always keep an ear out for talk of folk that deal with elixirs and such... there was mention of an apothecary... Human name... Eldric? Elric? Eldric Burnwell maybe? (Burnwell sounds promising!). And there was an Herbalist in a small house outside of the town wall... a Myrna something or other. Almost sounds like a Goblin name. You'll want to look these two up!
