The Forest Catfolk Culture

This article is one of a series providing basic information for someone choosing to role-play a Catfolk of the Forest Culture in a TTRPG based in the World of Cartyrion. The series is designed to encourage preparation of a Player Character by focusing on the nature of the character without focusing on the game statistics.
You are descended from a long line of loners that have relied on stealth and patience, whether in seeking prey or in any other endeavors. You can trace your culture back to one of the two groups of first Awakened Catfolk. You have learned from your youth how to move through even the densest forest and jungle growth without difficulty, and have probably learned to rely on stealth and surprise to achieve your goals.

Cultural History

The first Feliseans were Awakened either on the plains to the south of the Great Basin or in the jungles to the East. The latter formed the basis for the Forest culture. As competition for space in the Forest of the Awakenings grew, some of the Forest Catfolk sought other homes, and thus gave rise to several of the other cultures of Catfolk.

Geographic Distribution

The Forest Catfolk do not hunt in packs, nor do they live in large family units. When young reach adulthood, they are expected to leave their birthing home and find a territory of their own. And since Catfolk hunting territories are expansive, it was just a matter of time before the Jungle of their Awakening could no longer support additional population. While some sought to make their places in terrains they were not comfortable with, others journeyed to seek out new forests in which to live. Though they have avoided the Great Forests where the Elven enclaves are, today, Forest Catfolk can be found living in coastal forests all across Cartyrion.
