The Ashkelonian Guard or Ashen Guard is a company of soldiers tasked with protecting the city of Jeharoa. Deriving from the ancient Ashkelonian Dynasty that ruled Jeharoa during the Mithril Era, the Ashen Guard was revitalized shortly after the Sundering Arcana, when the Palladian Empire's garrison abandoned the city just before the arrival of the Qartagonians. It has served the people of Jeharoa since then, pledging oaths to the populace and maintaining a delicate independence from whichever faction controls the city. During peacetime, the organization is frequently corrupt and underfunded but in times of trouble, their ranks surge as many citizens take up the mantle.   Ashen Guard wear simple kits with long tunics, chain shirts, and square kettle helms. They are distinguished from the other Pilgrim soldiers by their black tabards, which bear the golden sundisk seal of the Jeharoa.   All Ashen Guard are at least partially trained to use the spear and shield that they are issued. Some also carry daggers and longswords.
