The
Legion of Kanesh or 1st Legion of the Imperium is the primary branch of the armed forces for the
Imperium of Iskendra. Once a part of the old Palladian army, the Legion of Kanesh was originally one of several dozen legions spread out across the
Palladian Empire. However, after the
Sundering Arcana and the subsequent collapse of the Palladian state, the army was reorganized into themes or military districts and the Legion of Kanesh was made the primary organizer of troops and logistics. From its headquarters in the
Strategion, the generals of the Legion of Kanesh organize the defense of Fortress
Kanesh and plot the return of the Imperium to the center of the mortal order.
The Legion of Kanesh is comprised mostly of
human and
half-elf, with some
high elf and
aasimar serving in the officer and cavalry corps. It is primarily an infantry force, with some cavalry and a substantive navy. The Legion also maintains a dwindling fleet of skyships that have survived since the Sundering. A professional army, recruits are drafted and drilled in both peace and war time.
A Legionary of Kanesh is trained to use spears, shields, swords, and heavy crossbows. They are kitted in steel lamellar (splint) with plumed gambargin helms. Officers sometimes will wear facial visors that give off a blank but unnerving appearance.
