Each greave features three primary segments—the shin guard, knee poleyn, and sabaton—assembled with articulated joints that allow for fluid movement without sacrificing structural integrity. The Lyḧaeref retains its pale, silvery finish, though faint oxidized streaks trace the rivets and seams in a blackish red color, marking its age. The shin guard is the largest section, measuring 18 inches in length and 5 inches at its widest point, tapering to 3 inches near the ankle. Its outer surface is convex, shaped to deflect impacts, with parallel ridges etched vertically from knee to ankle. These ridges measure 0.6 millimeters in depth, converging at the center ridge, which terminates in a raised emblem of rays of light. The lower edge of the shin guard flares outward slightly, overlapping the sabaton to shield the top of the foot. The knee poleyn is a domed cap, reinforced with a double-layered shell for additional protection. It features wing-like projections on either side, extending outward by 2.5 inches to deflect glancing strikes. Each wing is engraved with circular patterns, their curves carefully aligned with the ridges of the shin guard for visual continuity. Four riveted hinges, spaced at equal intervals, connect the poleyn to the shin guard and allow for pivoting motion, reinforced with ginelwa pins that display faint patina. The sabaton extension is formed from overlapping plates, each measuring 2 inches wide and 1 inch in length. The plates are joined by hinged rivets, providing flexibility and articulation for foot movement. The toe cap curves slightly upward, reinforced with a thicker front plate to deflect downward strikes. Beneath the sabaton, a stamped leather sole is affixed with ginelwa studs, showing signs of wear along the edges and heel but remaining structurally intact. Internally, the greaves are lined with quilted linen padding, stitched into triangular compartments for uniform cushioning. The fabric is dyed pale white, darkened by sweat stains and traces of resin-based oils applied to prevent deterioration. Adjustable leather straps, fastened with gelwed buckles, secure the greaves at the calf and ankle, reinforced with ginelwa eyelets and double stitching along the edges.
