Each ring is small, scarcely wider than a fingernail, meticulously uniform in diameter, shape, and thickness. The rings themselves are tempered to a subdued, matte finish; their subtle surface texture exhibits faint marks from precise hammer blows and patient craftsmanship, discernible only upon close inspection. Where the rings intersect, each is delicately riveted closed, providing both flexibility and structural integrity. The density of the mail varies gently across its form, becoming slightly more compact around critical areas like the crown and the junctions near the neck and shoulders, while allowing marginally looser weaving near the upper sides for enhanced breathability and movement. At the helm’s apex, the chainmail tapers smoothly toward a small, rounded ḧuntāld disc, just over two inches in diameter. This crown plate is polished to a shining brightness, seamlessly riveted to the mail beneath. Its subtly domed surface bears faint radial lines etched lightly into the metal, precisely symmetrical and emanating outward in slender, exact arcs from a small, centrally placed indentation. These engraved lines display no ornate flourishes; they are precise and methodical, uniformly spaced and exacting in depth and length. Descending from the crown, the mail transitions evenly downward to encompass the head fully, closely contouring to the wearer’s skull. At forehead level, the chainmail meets a carefully formed brow plate, extending horizontally across the front of the helm. This brow plate, forged from a single, gracefully curved piece of ḧuntāld, gently wraps around the wearer’s temples and curves slightly upward toward the central axis, forming a subtle point precisely aligned with the crown above. The edges of this plate are rounded and meticulously beveled, each corner carefully smoothed to avoid snagging or abrasion. Its surface, like the crown, is finished with a muted polish, and is punctuated by evenly spaced rivets—each small, rounded, and flush-set—that secure the plate seamlessly to the underlying mail. Along its lower margin, the brow plate features a series of small circular perforations, placed uniformly apart, each hole meticulously punched and polished to perfection. Below the brow plate, the helm incorporates a minimalist faceguard constructed of articulated ḧuntāld strips. These strips descend vertically in a carefully balanced spacing—each approximately half an inch wide—and subtly curve inward along their length, following the natural contour of a face. The faceguard is open enough to ensure clarity of vision and airflow but provides sufficient coverage across cheeks and jawline. Each metal strip is attached securely to the mail above via small, discreetly placed rivets, identical to those securing the brow plate. Inside the helm, beneath the chainmail, lies an inner lining composed of fine leather, dyed a subdued shade of off-white. The lining is carefully stitched, its seams tight and even, each stitch placed methodically to ensure durability without compromising flexibility. Evidence of wear, subtle discolorations, and faint creasing are present in the leather, revealing careful usage over time, yet meticulously maintained. At the lower edge, a reinforced leather band wraps around the helm’s circumference, providing additional stability.
