Bounty Hunter

So long as a man's bounty is posted, the bounty hunter rides ever closer on his trail. Bounty hunters come from all backgrounds, whether agents of the royalty, former soldiers looking for a quick buck, or even common men seeking the thrills of justice; however, all bounty hunters are united by their proficiency with firearms, adept investigation skills, and their natural sense for pinning down even the slimiest target. This makes a bounty hunter not just a powerful offensive expert, but an ideal supporter for any team planning on diving into the world of crime and punishment. Most bounty hunters are found riding alone on the range, but you'll occasionally find them seeking shelter or new assignments at taverns, sheriff's offices, and hostels.

    Hunter's Mark (Class Feature)

Once you set out on a target, you’re unshakeable. Bounty Hunters operate by setting a hunter’s mark on a person whose face they have seen or whose name they have heard. At first level, you unlock the hunter’s mark on a target, granting the following benefits:
  • Advantage on attack rolls against your target
  • The ability to detect whether your target is within 1 mile of you
  • Starting at 3rd level, the ability to detect the cardinal direction to your target, if further than 1 mile from you
  • Starting at 7th level, the ability to detect the exact location of your target, if within 1 mile of you
  • You may keep a hunter’s mark on one individual at a time. The mark can be removed at your will, when the target is captured/killed, or when 3 days have passed since it was placed. If the mark is removed at your will, you may not place another mark until after a long rest. If the mark expires from 3 days passing, you may not remark the same target until you see them again.

    Always Alert

At third level, you have steeled your senses for combat to detect danger from all fronts. You gain the following perks:
  • Surprise attacks against you are rolled with disadvantage
  • You have advantage on initiative rolls when being ambushed
  • Starting at 6th level, enemies do not get advantage when attacking you while you are prone

    Stakeout

At fourth level, you have developed your ability to calm your mind and body while on the hunt. As an alternative to taking a long or short rest, you may choose to enter a stakeout, a resting state during which:
  • You regain half as much health as during a rest
  • You hide with advantage on stealth checks from those looking for you
  • You are awoken when a predefined condition that you decide is met
  • Starting at 5th level, you can use any of your abilities as a reaction when you are awoken by a predefined condition

    Dead or Alive

At fifth level, you've gained confidence when you set out to claim a bounty. When you set a hunter's mark, you may declare whether you will bring in the target Dead or Alive:
  • Dead: Deal +1 damage die with all attacks against your marked target. Critical hits against them roll one additional damage die.
  • Alive: You have advantage on all grapple, shove, and restrain attempts against your marked target. Any attack you make can be declared non-lethal after rolling damage.
  • You may change this declaration only if you remove and reapply your hunter’s mark.

    Most Wanted

At seventh level, your hunter’s reputation strikes fear into the lawless. When the total value of bounties you have collected exceeds the bounty on the head of your current mark:
  • You gain +2 to all intimidation checks against your marked target and their known allies.
  • Once per combat, you may force a Guts saving throw (DC = 8 + your Charms mod + proficiency bonus) from your marked target at the start of their turn; on a failure, they must take the Frightened condition until the end of their next turn.
  • Precision Shot

At ninth level, your marksmanship is boosted by your ability to predict your targets. When you hit a firearm attack roll against your marked target by 5 or more, you may choose a called shot effect:
  • Arm: Target drops one held object (no save).
  • Leg: Target’s movement speed is reduced to 0 until the end of their next turn.
  • Torso: Target makes a Guts save or is winded, taking disadvantage on attacks until their next turn.
  • Weapon: Target’s firearm jams and cannot be used until repaired (1 action to clear).
  • You may use Precision Shot once per turn.

    Voice of Judgement

At tenth level, your voice holds power over those you hunt. Speaking the name of your marked target aloud during combat has the following effects:
  • All hostile creatures within 30 ft who can hear you must succeed on a Guts saving throw (DC = 8 + your Charms mod + proficiency bonus) or suffer disadvantage on their next attack roll.
  • Your marked target must make the same save or immediately end any attempt to hide, disguise, or flee on their next turn.
  • Once per long rest, if your marked target fails this save, you may issue a single-word command (“Stop”, “Drop”, “Kneel”, etc.) they are compelled to obey for 1 turn.
