The Umbra Compass resembles a hand-sized bronze-and-crystal device with a violet spore embedded in its middle. When activated, the needle spins erratically before locking toward the nearest Umbra presence.   Detection Radius: 300 feet for strong Umbra sources. 60 feet for subtle traces.   Activation: Requires 1 minute of concentration. During this time, the user cannot perform other actions.   Limitations: The compass cannot distinguish exact type of source—only that Umbra is present and its direction.
In areas of heavy Umbra corruption, the needle spins wildly and becomes unreliable.
Using it too often (more than once per day) risks giving the user 1 Stress, as prolonged exposure to the compass’s resonance whispers fragments of Umbra voices.
