Snow-Claw Otter - CREATURE 1
RARECNMEDIUMBEASTSEMI-AQUATICANIMAL

Cutting swiftly through the icy water, the lithe and athletic corded form of these otters make quite a sight, their mastery of the waves unmatched. Snow-Claw are uniquely social animals, relying on each other, so unless it is an imprinted animal companion or familiar, one will never be found alone in the wild. They are either found in one of two types of groups;   Raid: 1+ 1d4 all males. OR Swell: 1 wave-wulf (the dominant male, has +1 confidence boost to all rolls), and 1+ 1d3 females, potentially also with 1d6 yearlings depending on time of year.

Special Abilities River Wolves: Snow-Claw otters are masterful pack hunters, oft compared to wolves, despite not being genetically related they use some similar tactics. Any time a Snow-Claw Otter is making an attack against a creature that was damaged since its last turn by another member of its Swell or Raid as appropriate it gets +2 to the attack roll.   Aquatic Ambush : When submerged, if a target creature is unaware of the otter's presence, it can utilize this ability, even striking creatures as far as five feet onto land. It moves up to 20 feet, though only 5 feet of this may be on land, and then makes a bite and claw attack. Both are made against the target whilst ignoring their dexterity modifier to their AC, and they deal an extra 1d4 ambush damage should they hit.   Taunting Assault : Like all otter species, Snow-Claw Otters have that unjustified mustelid aura and courage, however given they are pack hunters they actually have been observed exercising it as weapon. This ability has the Mental Trait. The Snow-Claw Otter must have members of its Swell or Raid in the water but out of sight, below the surface, with it. It then spends the actions, swimming up to its move speed along the shore, yipping and squeaking, splashing water tauntingly at a target, even perhaps flicking mud and pebbles from the bottom at the creature. That creature must make an Ego Saving Throw (or Will Save if you aren't using the expanded save type system).   Critical Failure: The target becomes enraged and irritated beyond reason and on its turn it must rush into the water, provoking the Aquatic Ambushs of the rest of the Swell or Raid as Attacks of Opportunity with the movement as it attempts to rush the creature annoying it. It is considered surprised (no dex to AC) to these attacks.   Failure: The target does become enraged and irritated almost beyond reason, rushing the offending otter and into the water regardless on its turn, however it is aware enough to know this is bait. It is not considered unaware/surprised but does still provoke the Aquatic Ambushes.   Success: The target is more or less unaffected, and can decide what to do with its turn normally, seemingly both unbothered by the annoyance, and unconcerned with the family group of aggressive aquatic predators, feeling no strong emotions either way.   Critical Success: The target reads the actions and perhaps even catches glimpse of the other otters and knows better entirely. It is now entirely aware of the Swell/Raid and understands they are seeking to attempt a predatory behavior, and will choose how to respond in kind.
Snow-Claw Otters can be an animal companion or familiar in Adventures in Valerick, but they must be raised from birth with the person whom wishes to accomplish this bond, so it is very rare, and only females can have this bond. They come to view the humanoid as a sort of Matriarch or Wave-Wulf like figure and will see other humanoids and animals whom garner that individual's approval as part of their Swell, the family unit.
