Medium Human Barkeep, Ex-Military Captain , Neutral Good
Vaughn served in the United Military during the Orc Uprising, quickly proving himself a capable fighter. He fought in a few skirmishes before his battalion was deployed to Var'Ragnah, where the Orcs were assisted by Dark Elf Sorcerers. During the brutal conflict, Vaughn's superiors were killed, but rather than retreat or surrender and risk execution for the Human soldiers, Vaughn took charge and commanded the forces, holding out until reinforcements arrived. He was part of the task force that assassinated Kar'ghun, and fought their way back out of the stronghold. After returning to Orthros in the wake of their victory, he was scarred by the brutality of the war, and requested to be discharged, which led to his first meeting with Gryphon. Gryphon agreed to release Vaughn from service only if he joined the Inquisitors on a final mission to kill Uven, the Dark Elf Warlord who had begun the war. Vaughn travelled to Hexarith, where they fought the Black Hand and confronted Uven. In that battle, Vaughn unknowingly witnessed the power of two Stones, and his entire squad was killed. He awoke in Gulvorn, where a group of Dwarves and Travelling Healers had brought him after witnessing the aftermath of the battle. In this group was Elena, who tended to his wounds and helped comfort him after the death of his comrades. Once Vaughn had recuperated, he travelled with the healers to Iriad, where he witnessed the wreckage of Hathorin Keep due to their neutral stance and sheltering Orcs, and the uncaring attitude of the people who lived in the city. He resigned himself to live away from conflict, and came to Calendale, where he began working at the Inn. Shortly after, Elena's caravan came through town, and she shared his sentiment. She parted from her group and stayed with him, and they eventually became married. Vaughn despises the thoughtless colonization of Ayndolyn and the monarchs that perpetuate it, and has made it his goal to shelter any wayward soul or outcast Magilite that wanders through town.
