4. Silence

It is quiet.
I can hear the hum of the computer while I am typing
and the soft ticking of the clock sitting on my desk.
The soft glow of the lamp casts a yellow hue
over the black, crowded desk top.
My body responds with stillness.
My mind settles and hushes.
The absence of sound is no longer disconcerting,
but has some how become a pleasure.
If I listen closely enough,
I imagine that I can hear my heart beating
and the breath flowing through my lungs.
I think only of the now.
This moment in which I am living.
There is nothing else.
