Chapter 33

Genno's mind was full of bloodshed; every kick and punch was as deadly as his fury. The more blood he spills, the more numb he becomes. The more these undead abominations suffer, the more his mind becomes broken. And the more his spirit blackens in doing so,.

With each passing second, a bit of himself disappeared as the inhuman creatures around him shrieked, roared, and cried in agony. With each blow, he could feel his hands and legs becoming wet from all the blood he got. But in the heat of the battle, it doesn't matter.

He'll keep killing them, no matter what it takes. As protecting his loved ones is more important than anything else, that is what drives him. If that means losing himself in order to preserve their lives, then so be it. Even though things are relentless, he is determined to finish what he started.

"I will stop this madness."

With one hand, Genno swung and knocked five undead away with the motion of a single strike, while with the other, he jabbed three in the faces before blasting them a few meters behind. Sweat and blood dripped down from his forehead as the monks staggered, breathing heavily from this.

They surrounded him, likely coming up with a plan, as despite how mindless they appear, some things are animalistic in nature and possess basic reasoning, awareness, and problem-solving skills. Which is probably due to their previous lives as living, breathing people.

But it doesn't concern him anymore as these beasts act like feral animals; the only difference between them and him is that he's not dead. However, despite that, Genno will keep fighting to protect Seth and Bruno. Without hesitation or holding back, he swiftly turned around with fists ready as the group charged from behind.

Swiftly dodging their attacks and countering with his own, he sent a flying uppercut straight to a creature's jaw and upper-cutted its face off with enough force to send the monstrosity high into the air before falling down somewhere else in front.

As for the other zombie that managed to grab him, he round-house kicked the being in its midsection before delivering a devastating tornado kick across its jaw that shattered it into bits of bone fragments. Kicking the lifeless corpse away towards its brethren.

More and more came, crawling their way to him before jumping to attack. Ducking from them, he swung his fist across a single monster's head before lifting its entire mass from the ground and throwing the thing at another set of attackers that were unfortunate to find themselves in harm's way.

Using momentum to his advantage, he flipped his body upward to avoid their incoming blows before spinning in the air and delivering a powerful aerial spinning kick across their heads, crushing skulls or ripping off jaws entirely as a result as his feet made contact with the soft tissues.

However, they were relentless as always and kept on coming for him. Some even had weapons, although they aren't difficult to deal with, especially in these types of situations. Despite his fatigue, the monk can still muster enough strength to destroy them.

Stepping back to catch his breath, Genno had allowed himself to momentarily rest. A big mistake was when a crawling creature managed to take a bite on his ankle, forcing him to instinctively stomp on it and crush the undead's head like an overripe watermelon.

Despite having a gruesome moment of seeing a corpse explode with splattering contents like gushing soup, The monk never faltered, but during this massacre, he briefly took a glance at the bite wound as his eyes widen in shock at seeing an unusual infection taking place.

The bite wound has taken the form of a large, circular blob of pitch-black flesh. Infected and pulsating like an active tumor that's growing exponentially. This was a horrifying discovery, but a painful reminder of the real threat that is amongst him.

Is this it?

Another punch across an undead's cheek tore it apart. Genno felt his heart racing at the sight of the injury; he knew that it was already too late to find a professional physician, given how far he was. What's more, magicians are a rare sight to see in the first place.

Will this be the end of him?

Kicking the body away, Genno grasped his stomach. The pain has become unbearable, making it hard for him to maintain balance and focus. It was as if an enormous weight was pushing him down to the ground. His entire leg, where the bite took place, will surely make him drop to his knees.

Elbowing one of the things on the nape and knocking it away, he questioned if dying for the sake of his friends was worth it in the end. He could have selfishness and use Bruno as bait rather than himself. After all, the two of them just met, compared to the years he spent with Seth.

And if so, why was I willing to do this?

Just as he was about to dodge an incoming attack on his side, a sudden realization came to him when he quickly stared down at his uninjured leg, where his decapitated head was already chewing off in hunger. "Oh..." Inhaling deeply, the monk gathered his inner resolve by clearing his mind from thoughts and concerns as he finally understood his time.

Giving in his fatigue, he dropped on his back to the ground before the things quickly started tearing apart his body. "I don't regret a thing," was softly spoken by the man while looking above with wide open eyes as the night sky remained clear and stars sparkled across the vast emptiness.

It was a beautiful sight that brought solace into his heart as he weakly smiled. How unfortunate for him to die this way, yet at least his comrades have good chances of surviving, and he wouldn't mind at all. "Fate is a funny thing indeed," he chuckled softly, accepting his untimely demise.

The remaining undead swoop in to take their time consuming the flesh from his bones. Faces and claws scratched along his skin, cutting him like butter as the monks lay there helplessly and exhausted beyond belief. It was incredibly painful, to be precise, but his mind has already given up on him.

Lying down with chunks of his flesh being torn off, their rapid movements and shrieks caused his ears to ring along with loud slurping noises as he swallowed his insides. It's disgusting to behold; however, he already accepted his fate as he continued his focus on the stars themselves.

An tear escaped from his eye as he closed them shut, smiling happily with contentment at what he had done; he died valiantly and heroically. Never regretting the decisions he made in life or the deeds he committed in doing so, "at least," chuckling lightly, "I met you," tears continue streaming down across his cheeks, "my only friend."

As he waited for his death, he heard a group of familiar voices that he had once thought to be dead. They spoke in unison, like a choir of angels from above, as the young man couldn't help but be shocked to hear them again after having moved on with his life.

"It's not your time."

Guan Yu, Billy, and Morgan, who are thought to be deceased, were directly speaking to him. It was a shocking revelation that almost caused him to faint right away. "What?" Genno whispered with widened eyes at hearing them again.

Just when he opened his eyes, the undead who were currently taking a bite out of him and the rest that were desperately trying to taste his flesh suddenly became covered with flames as they screeched in agonizing cries that sounded like sirens wailing out their suffering for all to hear.

Glancing around in pure confusion, he caught a glimpse of them: Seth and Bruno standing side by side a kilometer away from him, their faces covered in horror at seeing his injuries, which were rather gruesome to behold. Nevertheless, the flame grew stronger and brighter while burning these abominations alive, along with their scorching bodies falling onto his own.

The two men quickly ran towards him, forcing the undead closest to Seth's presence to turn into ashes by just the mere holiness emitting from the latter while those around him were burnt to crisp in a matter of seconds.

They fell down like doves, ashes everywhere in sight that clouded the surrounding area itself. But it didn't stop the holy man from continuing to move, despite how Bruno was having a difficult time maneuvering through these corpses and the smoke nearly covering everything.

Their wails were so intense in the ear that they literally caused headaches, but eventually, all of them ceased in mere seconds before the silence returned into the night. The only audible noise that could be heard was Seth running towards him and panting.

Soon enough, Seth leaped towards Genno's side before hastily kneeling to his injured companion's, tearfully embracing the monk tightly with sadness and regret, "No, no." Crying miserably for his beloved friend, "You can't die!" The holy man demanded for him to live: "It's not your time to go." He was sobbing with watery eyes as he refused to let go.

Genno's appearance was gruesome to see; his fingers were missing; one leg was gone; the nose and ears had been completely cut off; and his lips were shredded in pieces, unable to form a proper sentence or words. Aside from the bleeding and mutilation, the infection from the bite on his ankle was spreading throughout his body.

Black veins have begun popping out on his skin, replacing the muscles underneath and changing them to a different material altogether. "Genno, please wake up," shaking him gently as Seth profusely begged for his friend's survival to the point of sobbing loudly, "Lord!" Calling out his one and only father in heaven.

"Heal him, father! Help me bring this man back to life!" His tears dropping onto his friend's face, "Give him life!" With a powerful declaration from the Son of God, the clouds above opened, and a glowing radiance in the shape of a dove has descending itself.

The light projected down onto them; its vast openness removed all the smoke covering the entire area as Bruno coughed from all the ashes that went inside of his lungs before witnessing what's happening in front of him and then above him.

His mouth opened wide in awe and amazement at seeing a bird—no, not a normal bird but an otherworldly being taking in the appearance of one, "by God." No words were left in him to describe such a phenomenon as with all of this happening.

He knows some things about Christianity, which is their God itself. A loving and merciful higher being who is omnipotent in every way possible. Now he is starting to believe this new religion movement is becoming true, as Bruno is convinced of witnessing a divine act himself.

"Hold onto him," the holy spirit speaks to Seth, "and say the words," his indescribable voice echoing all around them, "as the glory of the Lord shall hear your pleas," he spoke utmost declaration to the son, who was still crying uncontrollably by this.

By bringing his connection to God, he begged out loud with all of his soul and heart, "Genno, come out!" He demanded with conviction; his tears were falling nonstop. It hurt his very being to see this happen to the one person who is most important to him.

Then his wish came true as Genno's entire body was restored within an instant, as if it were a flip of the switch, his limbs having reappeared like magic, with missing pieces appearing back in their original state. Even his wounds were healed in a quick succession, causing Seth to release the biggest sigh of relief from this.

Genno was surprised by this whole ordeal; he remembered falling into a deep abyss after his death only to be brought back alive with everything healed and repaired. It was truly a sight to behold, but most of all, he couldn't believe that he was actually alive.

"My Lord," speaking calmly as Seth instantly reacted by loosening his tight embrace as Seth lifted up his eyes and said, “Heavenly Father, I wanted to thank you that you listened to me. I know that you always listen to me, but because of the other man standing around, I said this, that he may believe that you sent me."

Just when he said those words, the holy spirit and clouds above vanished without trace, returning back to its normalcy. Then he rested his forehead on Genno's chest as he repeatedly uttered, with silent cries of joy, "Thank you, Father, thank you..."
