Manuscripts: Duplication and Easier Versioning

What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?

When versioning a manuscript the current way is to go to each scene, duplicate it, and then place it in the new folder. Repeat multiple times. This can be a daunting task if you tend to write with more scenes or have a large manuscript.

I am asking for the ability to duplicate folders, including the subfolders and scenes beneath them. So versioning becomes selecting Draft 1 folder, duplicating, and maybe renaming it Draft 2. Done.

The ability to duplicate a manuscript is also missing. Currently to duplicate a manuscript you create a new manuscript, copy and paste the content you want(either one by one or using another word processor), then redo all the metadata you added.

This could be fixed by having the option to duplicate a manuscript.

How does this feature request address the current situation?

This makes it much easier for people to version their manuscripts. Instead of dozens of duplications, and maybe moving scenes to the wrong place by accident, you have a couple clicks to version the entire draft.

It would also make it possible to duplicate an entire manuscript. The ability to duplicate a manuscript would also allow people to split a manuscript. For example, it has gotten too big and maybe this should be multiple books...

What are other uses for this feature request?

Can't think of any off the top of my head. It's a pretty specific request.

I do this in non-WA manuscript editors to store old drafts, and it would be cool if WA also had a similar option. That said, you can also export the manuscript to HTML to create a backup draft for reference, which performs a similar function. Old drafts are generally for reference, not for editing, so the export would meet most needs.

This is common-sense, but there could be even more user-friendly and intuitive approaches to versioning, such as tracking changes to scenes and automatically storing history, with the option to one-click iterate a new version of a scene, act, or manuscript draft.
