Script Writing Formatting

script script-writing formatting manuscript

What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?

There is no script writing formatting availible in the manuscript system. I write prose and scripts and being able to remain in World Anvil while working on a script would be most helpful as I would keep all of the hard work I have done on my world at my finger tips while writing a script set in said world. The formatting for scripts is specific and being able to apply that to my manuscript while working on a scipt would be extremely useful.

How does this feature request address the current situation?

Right now, there is no intergrated script formatting on World Anvil. I imagine you could finagle with the settings to be able to get that working but being able to just hit a button to get the right formatting is invaluable while in a writing flow. I picture this being a drop down menu under format that you can just apply to whatever paragraph you need.

What are other uses for this feature request?

Script writing formatting may be used in unexpected ways for an author to help them organize their scene. For example, you could use the character dialogue script writing tool to help you get the words your characters are saying out while being easily able to identify who is saying what when and not have to worry about dialogue tags on the first run through the scene. Having more formatting tools can be helpful in organizing a scene be it in prose or in a script.

The Team's Response

Thanks for the suggestion! However, script writing is quite finnicky and has a lot of standards that must be followed (and different sets of standards too). This would require a significant amount of work that's not worth the current community interest.

I came up with some very finnicky CSS and BBCode that in conjunction turn a prose article into script format, but I'd love if there was a less complicated way of doing it.

I too write movie scripts, and a bad editor for this is horrible. To make WorldAnvil a useful script editor they have to put a great deal of manpower into it - there are applications dedicated to keep the standards and still not always make it right - and I simply don't think it is worth it. When a gigant program like Scriviner can't make it work properly...

Yes, please. Main reason why I am currently using arc studio instead of WA manuscripts. I would love to see that implemented.
