The Team's Response

Thanks for the suggestion! This is declined because an individual can't be of two different species. If a creature in your setting is a hybrid, they are a new species, not two species at the same time!

I support this to be implemented in the same way as multiple ethnicities are implemented. E.g. First line - select species, second line - select additional species such as for hybrids or magical infusion. I am not strongly attached to this feature, but if it is to be implemented, I would vote for it to be done so as such.

Yes please - not only good for hybrid species but also for different kinds of undead - e.g. an orc vampire vs a human vampire etc.

Would love this to be added. One of my characters is a mage's experiment, who's more than one race due to said experimentation.

As someone with a world with quite a few species that often mix with each other, this feature would be very helpful. I don't want to have a lot of stub articles for the hybrids because there's nothing really to write except its a combination of two already written species.

I would agree with this anyway, but just want to add that AuraGuard makes an excellent argument.

(A note: Pardon the allcaps, I'd use italics or bolding instead, but the message box doesn't have any clarity on if formatting is possible, so allcaps is the only way to create emphasis.)   Before we get another rant on "but a creature can only be of one species, not two" - according to REAL SCIENCE, a hybrid IS of two species, NOT one. A mule is listed as being of both parent species (literally just a quick Google). Speciation does not occur in the first generation (F1) of hybridization between two species. Speciation occurs after many generations of breeding isolation (caused by either environment, biology, or behaviour).   It is, in fact, NON-SCIENTIFIC to say that a mule, or any other hybrid character, is only one species. Hybrids are officially of two species. That is how the actual system designed by scientists works. Not this weird personal hangup stuff (literally the ONLY rationale cited for why the Species field is single-entry) that only expresses ignorance of taxonomy systems.   Pardon if I sound a bit harsh, but I am very done with said personal hangup rationale. It's rooted in nothing but ignorance.

Suggestions like this have been shot down before, but I still don't agree with that tbh. The logic is that a mix/hybrid isn't *just* a combination of the parent species, which is true, but not every mix is the same either. One human-elf hybrid could inherit different traits than the next. Not to mention that if you have a lot of different hybrids, that adds a lot of articles. Referring to both parent species and then using the character article to explain which traits that character inherits from their parents (or from hybridization) makes more sense to me than having to make a new article for each possible mix, and then still having to write out the specifics in that character's article.

Similar ideas have been declined in the past, but I'm still voting anyway, because this just makes sense- HYBRIDS ARE NOT SPECIES, not unless they've been breeding for long enough to become a species.

This has been shot down before, and with good reason: A mixed species has its own rules on how it works, it doesn't automatically inherit everything from its parent species. So you can't be both an Elf and an Orc, you're an Elf-Orc mixture.

Couldn't you just base your species on two others creating this new mixed species?
