Allow "countries" and other gov't types to populate the "Geographic Distribution" drop down

country geographical-distribution species-from-country

What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?

Currently, you are not allowed to link a species with a specific country, because a country is not a 'place' at its base definition. However, the whole idea is to be able to say 'this sapient peoples are specifically located in this country', and not have several redundant articles for the same place.

How does this feature request address the current situation?

You would be able to say 'my lizard people are from Hatha' and be done with it. Eliminate the need for a secondary article that's 'Hatha, geographical location' when it... really isnt.

What are other uses for this feature request?

I'm not sure there needs to be other uses.
I apologize if this has already been addressed/discussed. I did go searching and didn't find much for results, but I could be wrong! I think it would be not such a big thing, but if these country/other govt/province types were allowed to populate the geographic distribution box, for linking/searching to link, it would be easy to say x species/people are from this specific country(ies). It would eliminate the need to make separate articles with the same titles just to make it a different 'type' to work around.   Thanks for your time <3

Fair enough. Thanks!

The Team's Response

I am sorry but this will not be addressed. The same thing that it might be a simplification but also will complicate the clarity of the system

This would definitely remove a lot of extra steps. If anything just allow for both options and please everyone.

Just put the locations of the country in there. For example the X country spans across the A mountains and the B plains. Then you put the A mountains and B plains as the geographic for the species
