Sea Hag

Sea Hags are a Gremlin subspecies, the corrupted form of Lesser Nereids. These creatures prefer to remain in saltwater-based aquatic environments, though they are capable of getting around above the surface of the seas as well. In fact, they are always encountered in or around shallows near a coastline.

When encountered on land, Sea Hags are often mistaken for exceptionally old, weathered, frail Folk of a parentage that at least included Elves at some time in the past. Except for the greyish-green tint to their skin and the deeper green color of their straggly hair, they might be mistaken for any old fisherfolk that have spent too many years in the harsh environment of salt spray, sun, and storms.

Webbing betweeen their bony fingers and abnormally long toes may also belie their appearance, though their feet are often concealed by shoes when the Sea Hag is operating on land. Small gill-slits on their necks are also difficult to see as they are concealed by the loose, wrinkled skin.

Sea Hags build their primary lairs either in the rottiing hulls of sunken ships, or an natural sea caves, or even out of assembled rocks or other debris littering their sea-floor domains. They may also build crude huts onshore out of driftwood, flotsam and jetsam - reminiscent of shelters erected by poor fisherfolk. These allow the Sea Hag to better work its mischief.

Like their Hag cousins, Sea Hags prefer to have someone or something around to perform menial tasks and run errands. Their powerful charm magic enables them to coerce creatures into such servitude. These may include weaker-minded people of the Folk above the sea, and intelligent creatures such as dolphins beneath it.

The magic of a Sea Hag can be dangerous, but it can also be magnified greatly when the creature is part of a coven of three or more Hags. Such covens, which may consist of three Sea Hags, but could also comprise any other types of Hag, are capable of using even more powerful magic to advance their schemes of spreading chaos andd desstruction around them.

Gamemaster Notes

In the water, Sea Hags are remarkably fast and agile, having a swimming speed that easily outpaces their terrestrial walking speed. To take full advantage of this, however, they must discard any footwear they may have been wearing while above the surface.
