Phase Mink
The elite of the Free Cities have always had a penchant for fine - and often ostentatious - clothing. This has, for centuries, helped support a healthy market for rich, luxurious furs acquired from the creatures of the world. Much of this trade is supplied by folk who breed various animals in captivity to harvest their furs. But the high end of the market demands exotic goods that can only be supplied by the most daring of hunters and trappers - those willing to brave the wilder regions of the world to obtain rarer goods. In this market, there are few goods rarer - and fewer more dangerous to obtain - than the prized pelts of the Oakwood's Phase Mink
A single pelt of Phase Mink fur will bring 25gp in the markets of Endmere and other free cities. A full-length cloak with hood fashioned of the fur will cost at least 2000gp. A character wearing such a cloak gains an advantage in combat, negating any DEX benefits a target would usually gain against incoming damage.

Presumed to be a cousin to the common mink, the Phase Mink's fur has a unique - and therefore highly prized - quality: the ability to alter the perception of those who view it, making the fur, and therefore its wearer, appear to be located a two feet (60cm) away from where it actually is.
The Phase Mink itself is found only in the Oakwood Forest, and, for it size, is one of the nastiest creatures to be found in that haunted wood. Likely as a result of the corruption that all denizens of the Oakwood have undergone, these small beasts are considered even more ferocious than the giant badgers and wolverines found in other parts of the world, and since it is nearly impossible to discern an attacking creature's location, avoiding their razor-sharp teeth and claws is practically impossible.
The creatures tend to live in small familial groups, occupying shallow warrens dug beneath the roots of trees. They are more intelligent than their common cousins, to the detriment of trappers that dare to seek them out. While a trap might successfully catch one Phase Mink, its colony-mates have been known to stay nearby, and often attack the trapper who attempts to retrieve their catch. Few trappers consider the risks worthwhile, and for those that do, most change their minds after their first encounter with the angry relatives of a catch.

The elite classes of the Free Cities are not the only ones who value the ownership of a Phase Mink cloak. They are highly sought after by thieves and assassins as well. The dark brown, almost black, fur of the creatures, coupled with the "phase effect", make hood-to-toe wrapping cloaks of the fur extremely useful for skulking about in the shadows.

Gamemaster Notes
Phase Minks live in extended familial groups of 4 to 24 creatures. Juveniles remain in their underground burrows until they reach nearly adult size, and are not encountered in the wild. If a Phase Mink is captured by a trap, its colony-mates will guard the area waiting for the trapper to return, and will attack in force when they do. This occurs whether or not the trapped creature remains alive.A single pelt of Phase Mink fur will bring 25gp in the markets of Endmere and other free cities.
