The dark abyss calls me back into its cold embrace. Each day it becomes more alluring, penetrating my mind like a waking dream. Every moment is spent in anticipation of the night, when I shall return to it. When I’m alone, it compels me to kill the lights in my room and lock the doors. I position myself by the window. I turn my eyes to the darkness and wait. At first I see nothing, but the hours pass and I force my gaze deeper into the erebus shadow. I see black shapes within black, as if each passing moment reveals a quality of nothingness which I could not previously comprehend. Nothing… nothing… nothing… terrifyingly empty. All I see is the tinge of red at the edges of my vision as my eyes bulge in their sockets. My head feels like a blood balloon. The innermost part of my consciousness screams at me to turn away, but I force my body against the glass until my primal urges are quelled. Long after my eyes have played their tricks on my mind, and the terrifying shapes have faded into the obscuring haze, it is then that I see. The beginning of the end, the end of the beginning: Apeiron.
