At the time of the cataclysm many races were purged from the lands. The Wood Elves, however, were lucky in that a large delegation had recently journeyed under ground to parlay with the Dwarves of the Hazur Mountain Depths. Trapped under ground for centuries away from the trees they had come to rely on for comfort and sustenance, they turned to the only vegetation available to them, the glowing fungus found in abundance in the damp sea-side cave systems of the region. Slowly, as the waters of the world became poison, the mushrooms followed suit, and the slowly evolving Elf race grew with them.
Now, the Spore Elves are one with the depths. With complex porous muscles and bones, they are light and nimble, and have gained the ability to harness the nature of their kindred mushrooms. Drifting on the heat waves of the molten earth in the cauldron, they are but a whisper and a rumor among the primary races. Drifting in like a wayward shadow, taking what they need and vanishing just at quietly, many believe that they are no more than a fairy tale told to scare young goblins away from the dangerous dark places of the underworld.
