The cooper is the one who works wood to make barrels, vats, buckets, tubs and troughs that can hold liquid or very fine goods (such as wheats). The cooper works the wood to shape, treats it properly and some even have some limited blacksmithing ability to make the metal bands to keep barrels together. Though most coopers will use stiff rope to hold their barrels together. A cooper might specialise in different areas of cooperage such as dry-tight, slack, wet or white cooperage.
