Heinous and Hungry. The grimfolk were among the first beings to first walk the Baleful Below, and thus are its most common inhabitants. The grimfolk are humanoids with appearances straight from the nightmares of other cultures: long, spear-like teeth; jagged claws, horns, and sometimes even spines; eyeless heads; skeletal, unnatural forms; eerie smiles; and many other ghastly features. Being the most common denizens of the Baleful Below, their behaviors and cultures are varied, though many of them lean towards the chaotic side of life that many beings end up in while living in the cryptic and dangerous Below.   Ability Score Increase. Increase any 3 ability scores of your choice by 1.   Age. While somewhat humanlike in terms of their silhouettes and size, grimmfolk live significantly longer. Grimmfolk mature at roughly 16 years of age, reaching adulthood at around 18 and living just over 2 centuries.   Alignment. While grimmfolk can take on any kind of behavior based on the way they're raised, grimmfolk that grow up in the Baleful Below almost always lean towards the sides of the chaotic and evil.   Size. Grimmfolk stand between 5 and 8 feet tall. Your size is medium.   Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet.   Darkvision. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern color in darkness, only shades of gray. Magic Resistance. You have advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.   Fearless Freak. You are immune to the frightened condition and have resistance to acid damage.   Baleful Curse. Being native to the Baleful Below infuses grimmfolk with accursed energy, giving them the innate ability to curse other beings. As an action, you can attempt to curse a creature you can see within 20 feet of you. The target must succeed a Wisdom saving throw (DC= 12 + your proficiency bonus) or be cursed for 1 minute. When you successfully curse a creature, select 1 of the following effects to take place:

  • The target has disadvantage on all saving throws and ability checks until the curse is lifted.
  • The target becomes frightened of you for the curse's duration.
  • When the target attempts to attack you, the target takes a penalty to its attack roll equal to half your character level (rounded up).
  • Whenever the creature deals damage to you or an ally within 30 feet of you, that creature takes damage equal to your character level + your proficiency bonus.
  • The target has a -2 penalty to AC.
  • Only 1 creature can be cursed at a time. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus and regain all expended uses during a short or long rest.

Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common and Undercommon.
