Brownie

Brownies are one of the more common Nymph subspecies found in the world. They can be found in almost every forest, but they are also one of the few nymph types that can make themselves at home living in settlements of the Folk as well. Every village and town along the frontiers where the Folk are just settling will likely attract a few Brownies. They are terribly fond of sweets and treats, so anyplace with Folk preparing such goods regularly is likely to attract their attention.

Brownies dress in earthy colored clothing: shirts or tunics, pants, perhaps a crude vest. They lack the wings of many of their nymph cousins. They are often mistaken for small children due to their small stature, seemingly wobbly gait, and playful nature. Appearance to the contrary, they are remarkably dexterous. They are rarely encountered alone; pairs are most common though larger groups are possible.

They make homes in dark, secluded places, usually burrows hidden under rocks, shrubs, or even buildings. Often, they will make use of abandoned burrows of groundhogs or other animals; sometimes they even share burrows with such creatures. They have an affinity for small children of the Folk, and will befriend and play with children near their homes. They are wary of adults, though, and will usually disappear when parents come too close.

Brownies have an innate ability to "blink out" when danger threatens or when startled. This ability instantly teleports them to a clear location within sixty feet of their original spot, and always facing that spot. They can bring along one additional creature they are touching as well. They will use the small blade weapons they often carry to defend themselves if necessary, or to defend a "friend" - especially if that friend is a child of the Folk.

Like all nymphs, some Brownies have been corrupted into Gremlins, but unlike most others, Corizzea had two different forms selected for the Brownies he chose to alter: Grimples and Nuglubs.
